Kawasaki is expanding its middleweight lineup with a new KLE650 family for 2027, built around the brand’s existing 649cc parallel‑twin. Early details show a standard model plus an SE variant packed with convenience and touring-focused kit.
Two core variants, plus three edition packages
The KLE650 will be offered in a base spec and an SE version. The SE gains several convenience and touring features designed for longer rides, including an up/down **quickshifter**, a **TFT instrument display**, tubeless tyres, a USB‑C power port, an aluminium bash plate and a larger windscreen.

- Optional editions: Kawasaki plans three factory-backed edition packages built from the accessories catalogue: Top Case, Rally and Adventurer Tourer.

Standard paint for the new model is listed as **Metallic Matte Graphensteel Gray**, while the SE is available in **Pearl Storm Gray** or **Pearl Blizzard White**. Styling cues echo the existing KLE500 and use a frowning LED headlight treatment similar to Kawasaki’s Z900 and the new Versys 900.
Mechanical layout and expected performance
Under the chassis the KLE650 uses Kawasaki’s familiar 649cc parallel‑twin mounted in a trellis frame. The engine retains a 180‑degree crank configuration—different to many rivals that use a 270‑degree design for a more V‑twin‑like character.
Technical highlights carried over or revised for the KLE include an 83 x 60mm bore and stroke, electronic throttle valves and a redesigned intake and exhaust. Kawasaki says the package aims to deliver strong low‑ to mid‑range torque while still offering confident high‑rpm performance, matching the eager revving nature found in other models that share the engine.
Official power and torque numbers have not been released. Observers expect figures close to the current Ninja 650—around 67bhp and 47 lb.ft—though Kawasaki has not confirmed this. The bike will come with electronic traction control and cruise control to support longer journeys.
Wheels, role and debut
The KLE650 fits a 21‑inch front and 17‑inch rear spoked wheel combination, but Kawasaki positions it as a comfortable long‑distance travel machine rather than a hardcore off‑roader. That framing suggests it will compete more directly with practical travel bikes than with focused rally models such as the Yamaha Ténéré 700 or Aprilia Tuareg 660.

The company has said the new KLE line will appear at Motorcycle Live at the NEC in Birmingham from November 21–29, where UK visitors can see the models on display. Kawasaki’s intent is clear: provide a more relaxed, luggage‑friendly option in the middleweight adventure segment rather than chase extreme off‑road capability.
MCN’s perspective
Not every rider wants an aggressive rally bike. For those after a steady, luggage‑friendly companion that is easy to manage and not overly powerful, the KLE650’s combination of familiar engine character, touring features and practical wheel sizing could be appealing.
