Honda has uploaded a video to YouTube giving a teasing glimpse of the production X-ADV 750cc all-rounder and revealing a date of August 30 when more information will be released.
The bike is the production version of the ‘City Adventure’ concept that was revealed last year, and very little has changed for the showroom version. It’s based on the chassis and engine of the NC750 range, including the DCT semi-automatic gearbox. The style is a strange combination of scooter and adventure bike.
The idea is actually quite clever. The X-ADV’s twist-and-go ease of use means it will have a wide appeal to commuters. But the adventure styling and 750cc performance means it’s got long-range ability too. It really could be a true all-purpose bike.
Interestingly, the video gives a glimpse of a side panel bearing the same ‘ADV’ logo as appeared on the City Adventure. Originally Honda intended to use that as the bike’s name, but the firm’s attempts to trademark it failed. Instead it’s believed to go under the name X-ADV, since Honda has successfully applied for that trademark.
It’s likely to sit at the very top of the NC750 line. The upside-down forks and wire wheels, plus dual radial brake calipers and the standard DTC twin-clutch gearbox, mean its specification is higher than any other bike in that range.
Although detailed specs won’t appear until the end of August, we can surmise that much will be shared with the NC750. That suggests the weight will be around 220kg, power will be 40.3kW (54bhp) at 6250rpm andtorque 68Nm (50lbft) at 4750rpm.
The price may well be a sticking point. Currently the unusual Vultus is the most expensive version of the NC750, with a tag of £9999 in the UK. Given the higher specification of the X-ADV, it makes sense that it will be more expensive, pushing the price beyond £10,000.
