If you’ve been keeping an eye on this site the launch of Honda’s new X-ADV crossover machine won’t come as a surprise. The model was shown as a concept a year ago (see here) soon revealed to be set for production (click here for our story).
Six months ago, we brought images of the showroom-spec version (see here) and two months ago Honda started teasing the model (here).
Still, the bike’s official unveiling does give us a glimpse of some production paint schemes and gives a few technical details that were hidden until now.
As predicted, the underpinnings are derived from the NC750X, complete with the DCT transmission and 745cc twin-cylinder engine. Above them lies a veneer of scooter-style bodywork allied to new suspension that gives some real dirt-road ability.
Newly-revealed details include the 5-position adjustable screen, 21-litre underseat storage area and a keyless ignition system, with a ‘smart key’ that’s kept in your pocket. As well as allowing you to start the bike, the key’s proximity also unlocks the fuel cap and seat without ever having to get it out.
Options will include extra luggage including two sizes of top box – 45 litres or 35 litres – a rear rack and leg protectors.
Despite its NC750 similarities, Honda says the X-ADV crossover has a new steel frame design, needed to create the large underseat space. Specs also include an 820mm seat height and 162mm of ground clearance. Weight is a fairly hefty 238kg, wet.
Wheel sizes are unusual, with a 17in front allied to a 15in rear, with block-pattern tyres to add a smidge of off-road capability. Performance will be familiar to NC750 users, with 54hp from the 745cc twin.
