Suzuki has just announced that its 2017-spec GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F will have a fraction more power than last year’s bike and get a slipper clutch as standard.
The engine now makes a claimed 150bhp at 10,000rpm, the result of new crankcase ventilation holes that reduce pumping losses in the engine. The slipper clutch, as you’d expect, is said to help make downshifts smoother and stop the rear wheel from trying to lock.
As well as the extra power, there’s increased torque at 108Nm at 9500rpm.
Suzuki has confirmed that both the naked GSX-S1000 and the faired GSX-S1000F get the same mechanical updated.
As before, both bikes share the same GSX-R1000-derived engine basis and use the swingarm from the old GSX-R1000 bolted to an aluminium beam frame. Suspension is fully adjustable KYB kit.
Visually, you can spot the 2017 model by its black levers and foot controls, and the F version gets a tinted screen. Colour options on both bikes include blue and black or red and black, while there’s also an all-white option for the GSX-S1000F.
The naked GSX-S1000 is also being offered as a special edition ‘Phantom’ model with a matte black fairing, black silencer and black forks.
The bikes are due to reach dealers in March. In the UK, the naked model costs £9699, with the Phantom adding £200 to that. The faired model is £10,299.
