Suzuki has reworked its V-Strom 650 and 1000 models for 2017, introducing new version of both machines.
The V-Strom 650 has had the biggest work-over. The bike’s engine has been increased in power to 70PS at 8800rpm, with torque rising to 62Nm at 6500rpm.
Anyone who’s suffered the embarrassment of stalling will be glad to hear of the 650’s new low-rpm assist system, which increases revs while pulling away. Other new tech includes a dual-mode traction control system.
There are two versions, the normal V-Strom 650 and the 650XT, and both are restyled to loo k more like the bigger V-Strom 1000. The XT gets wire wheels, a lower cowling an hand guards to give a more off-road look.
Both bikes will go on sale early next year.
The larger V-Strom 1000’s changes aren’t as extensive, but they’re worth mentioning. While it looks largely the same as before, it gets a cornering ABS system and the range is extended to gain an ‘XT’ version.
Like the 650 version, the 1000 gains a low-rpm assist system to help getting off the line cleanly. It’s also mildly restyled with a new screen, hand guards and engine cowling as well as a redesigned beak.
As on the 650, the new XT model gets wire wheels instead of cast aluminium ones, plus tapered bars. Both models are due to reach dealers in spring.
