BMW is sure to have plenty of surprises planned for its 100th anniversary later this year but the first is the launch of four limited-edition machines for the UK market.
Called the ‘Iconic 100’ models, the bikes are actually made by BMW Motorrad UK rather than the factory, and each sits at the very top of their respective range. Special paintwork and a host of extras raise them above the standard bike. Only 100 of each will be made, as befits the anniversary.
The first version is the R1200 GS Iconic. Based on the R1200 GS TE Alpine model, it gets paint inspired by the Dakar models of the 1980s. A red seat with diamond stitching and Iconic 100 logo further sets it aside. Add-ons include BMW’s Gear Assist Pro and wire wheels, while the UK price is a hefty £16,790.
Pricier still is the R1200 GS Adventure Iconic. It also gets Dakar paintwork and a red seat, plus Gear Assist Pro. Price? £17,910.
The cheaper option is the R1200 RS Iconic, which gets black and silver paint with red and gold pinstripes. Its inspiration is the ‘Smoke Grey’ version of the 1976 R90 S. The black seat has red stitching and the Iconic 100 logo, while the forks and calipers are finished in gold. At £14,997 it’s the least expensive of the limited editions.
The most expensive of all is the R1200 RT Iconic, which costs a massive £20,645. For your money you get burgundy paint inspired by the ‘Lava Rot’ R100 RT of the 1970s. The seat gets red stitching and a logo, and there’s an audio system as standard. You also get the Dynamic Package, with hill start control, Headlight Pro, Riding Mode Pro and daytime running lights. A top box finishes it off.
All the bikes are available now, provided you live in the UK. Don’t be surprised if more special models appear later in the year to celebrate the anniversary, though.
