Ducati revealed a brace of Scrambler concepts at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este by lake Como in Italy. The two both took prizes in the ‘Motorcycle Design – Concept Bike and New Prototypes’ class.
The concept Café Racer took the overall win in the category. It’s a far more futuristic take on the cafe racer theme than the production Scrambler Cafe Racer. LED lights, wide wire wheels and a one-piece tank and seat unit in aluminium give it a unique appearance. The same bike also took the Villa Erba trophy, voted on by the public.
Meanwhile, the Desert Sled concept, based on the production model of the same name, took third place in the ‘Motorcycle Design – Concept Bike and New Prototypes’ class. It also added a sheen of aluminium to its restyled bodywork, and looks far more modern than the retro-styled production version.
Both Scrambler concepts were styled in-house at the Ducati Design Center. Its director, Andrea Ferraresi, collected the prizes. He said: “I am exceedingly proud of such a successful achievement, above all because the other prototypes taking part in the competition were really beautiful. Amidst the many superb looking bikes across all the competition categories, people chose to award our Café Racer with the Villa Erba trophy.”
Ducati didn’t quite achieve a clean sweep of the awards. Husqvarna’s Aero Concept, first revealed last year, came second in the ‘Motorcycle Design – Concept Bike and New Prototypes’ class.
