Ducati is offering to upgrade 2015 and 2016 1299 Panigales to the latest-spec Ducati Traction Control EVO.

The DCT EVO system was introduced on the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario. DCT EVO is now standard on the 2017 1299 Panigale and Panigale S. It’s also used on the 1299 Superleggera and 1299 Panigale R Final Edition. Fortunately for existing Panigale owners, the upgrade to DCT EVO is in the software rather than the hardware. That means earlier bikes can also adopt the system.

How it works

Ducati claims DCT EVO is more precise and faster-operating than earlier systems. It uses Bosch’s Inertial Measurement Unit to measure lean angle, as well as other metrics. When it needs to cut in, DCT EVO adjusts the throttle valves, spark and injection to modulate power.

Ducati says that compared to other traction control systems, DCT EVO keeps the bike closer to the ‘ideal intervention line’. That means it stays closer to the ultimate edge of grip where traction control is needed.

As you’d expect, it also has multiple settings. In ‘1’ or ‘2’ the DCT EVO system has a new ‘spin on demand’ function. It allows extra wheelspin when the bike is banked over. So expert riders can benefit from controlled slides without going over the limit.

To get the upgrade, 2015 or 2016 model year 1299 Panigale owners need to contact their Ducati Store. The update is an accessory so there’s likely to be a charge for it. Ducati hasn’t announced pricing.
