Ducati revealed the new Supersport in public – months after it gave fans a ‘closed room’ preview at World Ducati Weekend.6-03_SUPERSPORT_S

Unsurprisingly, pictures of the bike leaked back then, as did technical details, leaving few surprises for the official launch. But it still looks like a compelling prospect.

Powered by the 937 cm³ Testastretta 11° from the Hypermotard 939, it gives 113bhp. In a world that looks likely to be losing its once-popular 600cc supersport machines, the Ducati of the same name could be a great alternative. With more practicality, less intimidation and a lower price than an all-out superbike, the Supersport still carries Ducati DNA and promises a lot.

5-02_SUPERSPORT_STech includes Bosch ABS and Ducati Traction Control, and like many of the firm’s recent machines there are reassuringly long intervals between services.

You get three riding modes (Sport, Touring and Urban) and a height-adjustable screen, promising a wide range of ability.

As usual with Ducati, there’s the choice of an ‘S’ model with Ohlins suspension, a up/down quickshift and a pillion seat cover. Or you can have the base model with less kit. Prices start at £10,995 in the UK, or £12,295 for the ‘S’ version in red (white is a mystifying £200 more…)
