Yamaha’s YZF-R1M has been a stunning success since it first appeared in 2015 and next year’s limited production is likely to sell out fast.
The idea of only producing a small number of the bikes each year has ensured demand remains strong. Next year’s model sticks to the same idea and specifications as the previous versions, and will go on sale on 11th October 2016. Deliveries are scheduled for March 2017.
As before, the YZF-R1M gets Öhlins Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS). It also features M1 style carbon bodywork giving a 200kg wet weight (180kg dry). Other enticements include a Communication Control Unit with wireless remapping and a 6-axis IMU with Gyro/G sensors for 3D motion data. That aids the bike’s banking-sensitive traction control and slide control systems as well as banking-sensitive ABS.
It’s not clear whether there are any changes to the engine mapping, but Yamaha confirms that the 2017 bike is Euro4-compliant. The only colour option is Silver Blu Carbon, as before, but with new graphics.
Orders will be taken using an online process opening on 11th October.
Buyers will also get access to an exclusive Yamaha Racing Experience. This two-day course will be run at a selection of race tracks across Europe in summer 2017. It includes set-up workshops and track sessions overseen by current and former Yamaha racers.
