Zvexx electric bike

You can’t buy one of these just yet but this concept bike from new Swiss firm Zvexx is out to prove that electric power doesn’t mean bikes must be boring.driver

In the firm’s own words:

“Zvexx is not about being cute, it’s a badass bike with brutal acceleration that was designed to look great and it attracts attention from every direction! Bystanders look on in stunned disbelief. Supercars all but disappear in the presence of a Zvexx.”

backUnderneath all that carbon fibre bodywork sits an AC induction motor capable of generating 1218Nm of torque from zero rpm. It’s powered by 26 lithium-ion batteries that combine to give 13kwh, enough for a 150km range, and able to provide 600 amps at 96 volts. In performance terms, that means 0-80km/h in under 3 seconds. Not superbike-fast, but quick enough for most.

In terms of weight, the firm says that the bike and an average rider combine to 355kg, which suggests the bike itself is somewhere around 280kg. That’s heavy enough to blunt the performance, but about right for a machine with this sort of long, low, muscle-cruiser styling.Bike front

As you’d expect from a high-tech electric bike, there’s regenerative braking, while other gadgets include wireless telemetry and data logging. The whole thing can be programmed from a PC, and instead of a key the bike relies on an RFID chip.

The firm says that the bike is a concept intended to demonstrate what can be achieved. However it is considering a limited production run if there’s enough interest – potential buyers can contact the company at www.zvexx.com.
