Indian is already making serious inroads into the traditional cruiser territory previously owned solely by Harley Davidson and today’s launch of the Scout Sixty can only help it in its quest for a bigger share of the market.
Named after its 60 cubic inch (999cc) V-twin, a derivative of the standard Scout’s 1133cc water-cooled, eight-valve, DOHC unit, it’s the entry level machine in the range and will start at just €11,990 in mainland Europe.
You get a lot of bike for the money. As well as the resolutely modern engine, which makes 78bhp and 89Nm of torque, there’s a cast aluminium frame, and you’re unlikely to find technology like that on many of its competitors. It helps keep the weight down to a reasonable 246kg – not light, but certainly not as heavy as many cruisers.
As you’d expect, there’s a massive options catalogue including wire wheels, a solo seat, performance exhausts by Remus and alternative bars and foot controls.
“The Indian Scout has been a stunningly successful introduction for us, with balance, performance and manoeuvrability that appeals to a broad swath of riders here in America and around the globe,” said Steve Menneto, President of Motorcycles for Polaris Industries. “The new Scout Sixty expands that reach even further to include newer riders and a younger demographic who long to experience the legendary quality and craftsmanship of an Indian motorcycle.”
It’s set to go on sale immediately.
