Husqvarna reveals 2017 range

Written by Ben Purvis , Date 2:59 PM

The new 2017 motocross machines from Husqvarna have been revealed and include updates to both the firm’s two-stroke and four-stroke models.

Highlights from the changes are the adoption of WP AER 48 air-spring forks in several models, traction control on the four-strokes and an all-new TC 250 two-stroke machine.

Let’s start with the TC 250. It’s lighter and more agile than before thanks to a redesigned, lightweight engine and improved mass-centralisation. The aim was to make the motor smoother, and to that end there’s a balancer shaft fitted to cut vibes. It’s bolted to a reworked transmission, while a revised power valve design should improve power delivery. Lighter cases help reduce the overall weight

The subframe is now carbon fibre, helping reduce weight, while the main frame is still a steel tubular design.

Like most of the new range it gets WP AER 48 forks, which can be adjusted for preload via an air valve and a pump. They’re claimed to be 1.6kg lighter than the 2016 forks.

The smaller TC 125 two-stroke gets the same forks as well as a Mikuni TMX 38 carb.

On the four-stroke front, the big news is a Kehin engine management system incorporating traction control. It senses sudden increases in revs compared to throttle inputs and decides whether the rear wheel is spinning up too much, cutting power if it is.

The four-stroke FC 250, FC 350 and FC450 models also get a carbon subframe weighing just 1.4kg and the same AER 48 forks. A new engine map switch on the bars lets the rider opt for one of two maps and operates a launch control system as well as turning on or off the new traction control.

You can expect the Husqvarna updates to be mirrored in KTM’s near-identical model range when the Austrian firm reveals its 2017 line-up.
