BMW has revised its S1000 range of four-cylinder machines for 2017. Here’s how each bike is affected.

The S1000RR superbike is adapted to meet Euro4 emissiosn rules and now gets DTC as standard. ABS Pro is added to the ‘Riding Modes Pro’ optional kit, too. The RR is also now a single-seat bike as standard, with a passenger package as a no-cost option. There’s one new colour – granite grey.

The S1000R also gets updated to Euro4, with a power boost to 165bhp. More significantly, it gets the new frame from the 2015-on S1000RR, helping cut 2kg from its weight, down to 205kg wet. Another aid in that respect is a titanium HP silencer that’s now standard kit. The bars are isolated with rubber mounts to cut vibrations and ABS Pro joins the ‘Riding Modes Pro’ option pack. BMW’s HP Shift Assistant Pro for up and down quickshifts is also an option. Forged wheels are another option, cutting another 2.4kg.

The BMW S1000XR also gets the 165bhp engine spec, up from 160bhp, and Euro4 compliance. Vibes to the bars are reduced with rubber mounts and there’s a 10kg increase in permissible payload.
