As well as the new Leoncino scrambler Benelli has revealed that the same 500cc parallel twin engine will power a new adventure bike that’s due on sale late next year.
The TRK 502 shares the same 48bhp (35kW) A2-licence-friendly parallel twin as the Leoncino but mounts it in a different tubular steel frame and drops the retro styling in favour of modern adventure bike looks. The styling itself is neat enough, with all the usual adventure bike cues including a beak, aluminium-clad luggage, hand-guards and a heavily padded seat. There are hints of Multistrada in there, as well as a touch of BMW GS. But while all those bikes are big, 1200cc monsters packing well over 100bhp, this is half the capacity, even if it’s physically not that much smaller.
The running gear includes Brembo brakes and wavy discs, with ABS of course. Overall, the TRK 502 is something of a unique proposition – similar in capacity and power to a Honda CB500X, and presumably similarly affordable, but a far bigger-looking machine overall.
