Scooters might not seem the most obvious weapon in a crime-fighting arsenal but in some situations they’re the perfect way for police to move around fast.
While you’re unlikely to see scooter-mounted SWAT teams or find a twist-and-go in the Batcave, police scooters are increasingly common. And that’s why Yamaha is getting in on the action with a cops-only version of the Tricity 125.
The Tricity looks to have the usual scooter plus points like manoeuvrability and the ability to dart though city traffic. ABove that, its extra front wheel makes it harder to crash. In a city setting, where wet cobblestones, tramrails and potholes are likely to be rife, it’s an undeniable bonus.
The cop-spec Tricity is mechanically the same as the stock 125, but gets a full array of crime-fig hting additions. These include LED police lights, with flashing blue lamps at the front and a rotating one at the back. You also get twin five-tone sirens and an electronics control unit and control board, with space for extra relays and fuses. Those will allow other kit like radios or loud-hailers to be integrated.
Yamaha even says it can tailor make stickers to suit individual police forces’ needs.
