Triumph might have released the initial pictures and information about the all-new Bonneville range months ago but only now has a detailed specification been finalised.
With the new Bonneville T120 set to reach dealers by the end of April, the firm has at last settled on the key figures for the bike. The T120 and T120 Black models use the ‘High Torque’ version of Triumph’s new 1200cc parallel twin, the all-important power figure is 80PS at 6550rpm. That’s around 17PS less than the version used in the new Thruxton and Thruxton R.
Despite its ‘High Torque’ name, the T120’s engine actually has a lower torque peak than the ‘High Power’ version in the Thruxton, with 105Nm instead of 112Nm. The difference is in the way that torque is delivered. The T120 engine’s peak comes at just 3100rpm compared to 4950rpm for the High Power version.
Beyond the power, the new specifications also confirm the bike’s official fuel economy claims. The firm says it will achieve 63mpg, or 4.5l/100km if you prefer the European measurement system. Unusually, Triumph has also taken the step of revealing the CO2 emissions levels that the new Euro4-compliant motor achieves. At 103g/km it’s a fairly environmentally-friendly engine.
The chassis spec includes Kayaba 41mm forks and twin shocks from the same firm, with 120mm of travel at both ends. Nissin provides the ABS brakes, with a pair of two-piston calipers at the front gripping 310mm discs and a single 255mm rear disc with a twin-pot caliper. Tyres are 150/70 R17 at the back, 100/90 R18 at the front on 32-spoke wire wheels.
Details of the bike’s technology were released when it was first shown. It includes traction control and two rider modes – road or rain. Three-setting heated grips are also standard, along with a USB socket.
As you’d expect, there’s a huge range of extras on offer, with more than 160 individual accessories in the catalogue.
