Valentino Rossi has been hospitalised following an enduro riding accident yesterday afternoon. Yamaha has confirmed it’s star rider has suffered displaced fractures of both tibia and fibula of his right leg.
Rossi was initially taken to the Ospedale Civile di Urbino and later transferred to the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Ospedali Riuniti in Ancona. At around 2am he was operated on by Dr Raffaele Pascarella, director of the hospital’s orthopedics and traumatology division. The broken bones were pinned without any complications.
Yamaha says it will provide updates on Rossi’s condition in due course, and extends its thanks to the staff of both the ‘Ospedale Civile di Urbino’ and ‘Ospedali Riuniti di Ancona’.
In a statement released by Yamaha, Rossi is quoted as saying: “The surgery went well. This morning, when I woke up, I felt already good. I would like to thank the staff of the Ospedali Riuniti in Ancona, and in particular Doctor Pascarella who operated on me. I’m very sorry for the incident. Now I want to be back on my bike as soon as possible. I will do my best to make it happen!”
Rossi isn’t the latest in a list of riders to be injured in training. Earlier this year Max Biaggi was hospitalised while practising for a supermoto race. Now recovered, he tweeted: Good luck to @ValeYellow46. I hope isn’t so bad. I understand the feeling, I feel sorry for him and his championship. Come back soon
