Crazy custom revealed in Paris

Praëm SP3 rethinks the VTR1000 SP1

New custom building firm Praëm has revealed its first creation at Le Salon de la Moto in Paris and it’s certainly unusual enough to cause a stir.

Despite using the frame and engine from an old Honda SP1 the Praëm SP3 doesn’t look anything like the donor bike, or anything else for that matter, thanks to handmade aluminium bodwork that’s largely made from individual wires rather than sheet metal.

The styling is the work of Praëm founder Sylvain Berneron, who used to design bikes at BMW before setting off on his own, and combines traditional shapes – the overall feel is retro – with unfamiliar surfaces and textures.

Body aside, the bike uses high-end components including Ohlins FGR forks and Brembo radial brakes with carbon discs. Those wheels are Rotobox carbon-fibre rims, and all the lighting is LED.

Clearly more of a sculpture than a road-going bike, there are slick tyres and the only ‘instrument’ appears to be a TAG Heuer Monaco watch clamped into an aluminium bracket on the tank.

While this is the first bike to come from Praëm the firm has seven more machines in the works at the moment, ranging from café racers to scramblers and more traditional customs.
