There’s little secret about the fact that Honda will launch a new CBR250RR small sports bike in the coming months and now it seems we’ve got a glimpse of the bike’s headlight.
Honda has patented the design you see here and it’s a near-perfect fit for the fairing design of the Light Weight Super Sports Concept that the firm revealed at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show. That bike, while officially merely a concept, was actually a lightly-disguised preview of the new CBR250RR.
Although detailed information about the CBR250RR is scant at the moment, we know it features a totally new parallel twin engine. While it will be sold as a 250cc bike in Asia, it’s like to be boosted to around 350cc for the European market to compete with the Yamaha R3.
The new headlight patent shows that the concept bike’s overall style will remain largely unchanged. While the concept appeared to only have two very slim LED lights, the real design shows that these are merely daytime running lights. The main part of the headlights will sit below them, largely hidden inside the air intakes.
On the concept the air intakes featured noticeable strakes inside their openings, splitting each intake into three sections. These sections neatly match the three headlight elements on each side of the new patents.
The Tokyo show bike had its intake illuminated in purple and in light of the new lamp design it’s clear this was a clue as to the fact that the real headlights would be hidden inside the intakes.
Beyond the new CBR250RR, the headlight layout is understood to be part of a new family appearance that will spread to other models in the Honda sports bike range. The next machine due for launch with the same appearance will be the long-awaited CBR1000RR Fireblade replacement.
