BMW has introduced the 2027 F 450 R, a compact naked motorcycle derived from the new F 450 GS and positioned below its larger roadsters. The model replaces the G 310 R as the brand’s smallest naked offering and aims to serve as an accessible stepping stone for riders—though BMW says it has no current plans to bring the bike to the U.S.
What the F 450 R is meant to be
The F 450 R is a road-focused reinterpretation of BMW’s F 450 GS adventure platform. Visually pared back and tuned for asphalt use, the model targets riders who want a lightweight, modern naked bike with advanced electronics typically found on larger machines.
Engine and claimed economy
The motorcycle shares the F 450 GS’ 420cc parallel‑twin, a unit developed with help from TVS Motor. BMW fits the R with a stainless‑steel underslung exhaust and road-oriented tuning that yields a claimed peak output of 47 hp at 8,750 rpm—the figure BMW cites to comply with European A2 licensing limits.

Peak torque is listed at 31.8 lb‑ft at 6,750 rpm, with 80% of that torque reportedly available as low as 3,000 rpm. BMW states the F 450 R achieves 61.9 mpg</strong); combined with a 3.7‑gallon tank, that translates to roughly a 229‑mile range on a full tank by BMW’s numbers.
Transmission and rider aids
The F 450 R uses a six‑speed gearbox that can be reconfigured for track work to a 1‑up, 5‑down pattern. Most trims come with BMW’s Shift Assistant Pro bi‑directional quickshifter; the top trim, when fitted with the Innovation Package, adds a centrifugal Easy Ride Clutch to allow clutchless pull‑aways and stops.
Electronics include a ride‑by‑wire throttle and three selectable ride modes—Rain, Road, and Dynamic—plus a suite of safety systems: lean‑sensitive ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control to prevent unintended throttle application under braking, Dynamic Traction Control, and engine drag torque control (MSR).
Chassis, suspension and brakes
Underneath the bodywork is a steel tubular trellis frame adapted from the F 450 GS, but shortened for road agility. The F 450 R’s wheelbase is 55.3 inches, compared with 57.7 inches on the GS.

KYB supplies the suspension. The base model gets a 43 mm inverted fork up front; higher trims add adjustable rebound and compression damping. The rear uses a monoshock mounted to a double‑sided swingarm, with preload and rebound adjustments. Suspension travel is 5.5 inches front and rear.
Stopping power comes from a single 310 mm front disc gripped by a Brembo radial‑mount four‑piston monoblock caliper and a 240 mm rear disc with a single‑piston ByBre caliper.
Equipment and trim levels
Standard fit includes full LED lighting, a 6.5‑inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity, a USB‑C charging port, and heated grips. BMW also lists forged aluminum foot controls and a forged kickstand. Claimed curb weight is 386 pounds (388 pounds with the Easy Ride Clutch).
The F 450 R will be offered in four trims. The base model is available only in Cosmic Black. The Exclusive trim adds Shift Assistant Pro and an adjustable fork. The F 450 R M Sport introduces a Snaefell White/M Motorsport colorway with a white frame and rim decals, and adds a Dynamic Pro ride mode on top of the quickshifter and adjustable fork. The Innovation Package for the M Sport includes the Easy Ride Clutch.
Availability
BMW has provided the following statement regarding U.S. sales: “There are no current plans to bring the 2027 F 450 R to the U.S. The F 450 R may be introduced to the U.S. at a later date.”
