A helmet is the single piece of riding equipment that UK law makes mandatory, and it remains the most important investment a rider can make in personal safety. Quality varies widely: some premium lids top the four-figure mark, but several respected options are available for well under £100.

What each helmet offers
Arai Quantic Supra Red sits in the premium segment but is currently discounted to a more accessible price. The model features Arai’s Facial Contour System designed to improve fit, an important factor for both comfort and safety.

Scorpion ADX-2 Galane is an adventure-style modular helmet that converts between full-face and open-face configurations. It includes a removable peak, a Pinlock-ready visor and an internal drop-down sun visor — practical features for mixed-terrain riding.
Ruroc EOX Batman leans heavily on bold styling. The EOX supports integrated Shockwave intercom hardware and carries ECE 22.06, DOT and SHARP ratings, aligning it with current safety standards and multi-market certification.
Nolan N60-6 Sport Policromo is aimed at sporty riders who want practical features: a pronounced aerodynamic rear spoiler, eco-friendly comfort lining, removable cheek pads, Pinlock compatibility and a drop-down sun visor, plus ventilation tuned for active use.
HJC F71 Carbon is a lightweight carbon-fibre option with multi-position sun visor, enhanced ventilation channels, quick-release cheek pads and a washable interior. Pinlock is included with the helmet.
HJC C10 represents a budget-friendly choice that performed well in MCN’s tests and achieved a four-star SHARP score. It offers three intake vents, two exhausts, Pinlock readiness and a removable, washable lining.
Shark Spartan RS combines carbon construction with aerodynamic design. The helmet ships with a Pinlock 120 Max Vision insert, features three vents and four exhausts for airflow, a removable washable lining, a double-D chin strap and a five-year warranty when registered.
How MCN tests products
MCN’s testing team is made up of experienced rider-journalists who evaluate gear in real-world conditions rather than by destroying items in the lab. Reporters use helmets on the road and in varied weather, bringing practical perspective to fit, comfort and performance.
Items not yet reviewed may still appear if editors judge them important to the market; those pieces are only included with the intention of testing them on the road as soon as possible. For a fuller explanation of methods and criteria, MCN maintains a dedicated testing page describing its process.
