Indian Motorcycle Racing finished the 2026 Mission King of the Baggers season at New Jersey Motorsports Park with a commanding performance, underscoring the Indian Challenger’s dominance and capping a record-setting year for the factory team. The campaign included multiple wins, a podium sweep at the finale, and commitments to return key riders for 2027.

Finale delivers another strong showing for the Indian Challenger

The J&P Cycles / Motul / Vance & Hines Motorsports factory squad claimed Race 1 at New Jersey with Troy Herfoss scoring his second victory of the season after charging forward from the back of the pack. Hayden Gillim finished second and Tyler O’Hara third, completing a full podium of Indian Challengers. Gillim added a third-place finish in Race 2 to close the season.

Gillim had already secured the 2026 championship at Circuit of the Americas two weeks earlier, allowing the team to enter the finale with momentum and focus on finishing the season on a high note.

Records and statistics from a historic season

Across the series’ 14 races, the Vance & Hines–prepared Indian Challenger accounted for 10 victories and helped the factory team set a new KOTB record with 24 podiums. Gillim alone won eight races, a single-season high for a rider in the series.

The team also recorded a six-race win streak, took six of seven pole positions, and claimed five new track records at Road Atlanta, Road America, Mid-Ohio, Circuit of the Americas and New Jersey. Those results reflected rapid development of the race package built around the liquid-cooled PowerPlus 112 engine.

Partnership payoff and what it means for riders

The 2026 campaign marked the first full season of the collaboration between Indian Motorcycle and Vance & Hines Motorsports. The alliance combined Indian’s production platform with Vance & Hines’ decades of race development and produced consistent race-day performance from the opening round at Daytona through the finale.

Indian Motorcycle’s 2026 title is the manufacturer’s fourth King of the Baggers championship, joining previous champions Tyler O’Hara (2020, 2022) and Troy Herfoss (2024). Gillim’s championship season broke the single-season wins record and helped establish the Challenger as the benchmark in the class.

Eyes on 2027: continuity and ambition

The team has already locked in Hayden Gillim and Troy Herfoss for 2027. Indian Motorcycle’s leadership described the season as proof of the package’s potential and said the program will push to become the first to secure consecutive KOTB championships.

With the championship pairing retained and Vance & Hines continuing development, the factory program enters the next season aiming to translate its 2026 dominance into a repeat title run.
