Subaru’s record-breaking lap in full

On board with the fastest four-wheeled TT lap

The 2016 Isle of Man TT might be a distant memory now but anyone who was there couldn’t forget the amazing record-breaking run from Subaru’s Mark Higgins.

While cars might have two wheels too many, the sight of a race-prepped Subaru with some 600bhp lapping nearly as fast as a superbike was something to behold. Bikes might hit close to 200mph, but a something the size and weight of a car reaching nearly 180mph between stone walls and houses is undeniably impressive.

Higgins managed a lap time of 17m 35.139s for an average speed of 128.730mph (207.171km/h). He reckons it could have been faster still, beating the 130mph mark, if the final planned run of the week hadn’t been cancelled.

Now Subaru has uploaded the full, unabridged on-board video of the lap to YouTube, giving a driver’s eye view of the whole thing. It’s narrated by Higgins himself, explaining the lap, and carries datalogging showing speed, gear, G-forces and even the driver’s heart rate.

The video is just over 20 minutes long, and even if you’re firmly in the two wheeled camp when it comes to excitement at the TT, it’s worth finding the time to take a look.
