Weird concept will reach production as ‘ADV 750’

Honda City Adventure to be sold in 2017

The strange Honda City Adventure concept revealed at the EICMA show last month is set to reach production under the name ‘ADV’ as part of Honda’s 2017 range.

Despite being shown in Milan in November, Honda has been surprisingly quiet when it comes to confirming the specifications of the bike. Close examination reveals that the engine and chassis are directly descended from the NC750 range, which already includes a wide span of models from the Integra scooter to the weird Vultus cruiser, taking in the NC750S and NC750X along the way. Since the components in question already appear on a scooter – the Integra – and an adventure bike in the form of the NC750X, there’s no reason the two styles shouldn’t be combined.

In production trim, the bike is likely to lose a few of its more outlandish detail, like the green-rimmed headlights, and components like the upside-down forks and cast aluminium swingarm might be switched for existing NC750 parts, but the overall shape isn’t expected to change.

One thing that will change is the name. Just as the first bike in the NC range – the Integra – was originally shown as the ‘New Mid’ concept and the Africa Twin was revealed under the ‘True Adventure’ name, the concept bike’s name, ‘City Adventure’ will be changed for production. The final name is expected to be ADV or ADV750; not only are the letters boldly written on  the sides of the bike, its tank and its dashboard, but Honda has also now applied for a trademark on the ‘ADV’ title for use on a forthcoming new model.
