Details of the new Vespa Elettrica are still scant but the firm says that a production version will be on sale before the end of 2017.

No information was given in terms of the bike’s battery technology, motor type or performance. Range, which always a key factor for electric vehicles, has also not been established.
Electric scooters are already making significant sales in China. They are expected to become increasingly popular as city-bound transport elsewhere in the near future, so it makes sense for Piaggio to enter the market. The firm points out that it’s already a pioneer of hybrid petrol-electric bikes. It’s also had experience making all-electric models since the 1970s with vehicles like the Ape commercial.
